Jenna Lyons Brooklyn Brownstone Kitchen

In a previous kitchen post I included this lovely pic.

Little did I realise that it was the kitchen of Jenna Lyons, the Creative Director for J Crew.

Habitually Chic has an in-depth post on Jenna's Brooklyn brownstone, comparing shots from a 2008 feature in Domino (RIP), a more recent Living Etc feature and the architect's site (love her dedication!). I've included the other shots of the kitchen here....

This one's propped out a little more....
I had to include this pic of the back garden - isn't that staircase and flowering blossom just beautiful?

By all accounts Jenna has turned J Crew's fortunes around this year. Having the First Lady in a J. Crew get-up on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno can't hurt. According to Forbes she is remunerated accordingly.

Not having visited the US, I don't have intimate knowledge of J Crew's offering. My mind swims when I visit the site. But I've come across many positive references in the land of blogs. Jenna sounds dynamic and if her home is anything to go by, I hope she can at the very least, maintain and evolve her 'classic with modern twist' aesthetic . It's really quite lovely.

See what's in Jenna's office here and here.

Our Family Favourites

Reading craft blogs inspires and depresses. 'I can do that' meets 'I don't know where to start'.

Call the newspapers! I am now on a DIY high as I have managed to complete a 'project' that's been on the cards, well, for a bloody long time. I have managed to sort through the heap of hastily torn-out, roughly hand-written and cookbook dog-eared recipes and filed them neatly in one folder. I even designed the title page all on my own (this is very exciting).

I will be presenting it to our household cooking dynamo (husband) this Christmas as a wee token of my bountiful love for his tireless feats of awesome culinary reproductions on a nightly basis with two kids to entertain whilst I fight peak-hour public transport on the way home from work.

Vintage Qantas Posters by Harry Rogers

I nabbed this lithograph on eBay a while ago and have only now had it framed. Isn't she lovely?

These posters designed by Harry Rogers were in a series commissioned by Qantas as part of a successful advertising campaign promoting overseas destinations to Australian travellers.

Rogers enjoyed a long and productive association with Qantas as a freelance designer. He devised many different and unusual techniques for each different poster series; starting in the 1950s through to the 1970s, incorporating a variety of styles such as geometrics, watercolours, collage work, and oils.

Rogers' designs were innovative, utilising the latest in printing, typesetting and photo technology. The posters produced for Qantas made use of bold, readily identifiable images and vivid colours that were typical of the period.

Check out most of the range here and repros here

I'd love to get my hands on this Australia.

I Feel A Prop Frenzy Starting...

Yes, handequins are the new terrariums.

That's 'mannequin' for gloves by the way.

Eeek! Again I saved this pic to my desktop and can't remember exactly where I got it from. Vague recollections of a rather rad online homewares-y type shop. Put your hand up if it's you. Sorry, bad joke.

Currently Wrapping Presents

Can you feel it yet? Christmas I mean. This is when I start to get excited.

I don't remember where I got this pic from but if you know, please tell me.

Got it! Pic from HulaSeventy. I love the maps......and those trees.

Come In (I'm Hungry)

I can not stop thinking about this. If only she had a red riding hood.

One-Way Mirror Toilet (Not For Pee-Fright Prone)

I'd never picked the Swiss to come up with something like this....a one-way public toilet. The pee-er can see out, but the pee-ed can not see in.
